Layer Solutions Day is a regular event for BEC, Big Dutchman and Hendrix Genetics. On April 22, 2025, LSD was held in the city of Blitar. Breeders warmly welcomed the event and made it a platform for discussion between breeders and the industry.

In the event, BEC had two speakers, Mega Saragi, Nutritionist and Technical Manager of PT BEC Feed Solutions Indonesia Dr. Akaradet Seemacharoensri, Technical Services Speciliast Poultry & Swine – Southeast Asia, Jefo Nutrition Inc.

Gut Health

Gut health is important in the productivity of laying hens. With a healthy gut, chickens will be able to absorb nutrients more optimally, have better survival, and produce more eggs.

Current global challenges in layer production include: the banned use of antibiotics in livestock systems, antimicrobial resistance, exposure to pathogens(E. coli, Clostridium, and Salmonella) that can infect the chicken gut, and longer production cycles, which increase the risk of intestinal diseases.

One solution is the use of organic acids and essential oils. Organic acids and essential oils, combined in a unique coating technology called Jefo Matrix Technology. This technology allows the active ingredients to effectively reach the target parts of the gut, increasing resistance to pathogens and improving digestive function.

Various studies and field data show a reduction in layer mortality after the use of Jefo products, an increase in egg production of up to 8%, especially in older hens, and an improvement in the cage environment through reduced ammonia emissions and improved litter quality. With the right nutritional approach and advanced technology, farmers can maintain chicken performance while meeting the challenges of food security and sustainability.

Premixes to Support Feed Investment

Mega Saragi, Nutritionist and Technical Manager of PT BEC Feed Solutions Indonesia in her presentation explained that feed is the largest cost component in the livestock industry, reaching up to 70% of total production costs. Therefore, it is important to optimize the value of each raw material used through quality feed additives in the form of premixes.

Not only selling products, BEC also provides support services in the form of the “Premix Klinik” program, which is a training to understand the physical characteristics of micro raw materials and premixes and their effects on the manufacturing process, such as flowability, density, particle size, and hygroscopicity (ability to absorb water). By understanding the properties of micronutrients and premixes, farmers can take early precautions and ensure the feed is working optimally.

The success of the layer industry depends on a combination of product quality, feed utilization efficiency, and proper technical support. Premixes are an investment, not an add-on. If used with the right strategy, they are the key to getting the best performance from already expensive raw materials.
