BEC Feed Solutions Indonesia (BEC) together with Jefo, Novonesis, and Phosphea collaborated at the LEP Expo & Conference 2025 held from Wednesday to Thursday (14-15/5). In this activity, BEC, Jefo, Novonesis, and Phosphea were in one booth introducing various products especially for ruminants as well as a place to greet customers. This was also to introduce to customers that BEC is a distributor of ruminant products owned by Jefo, Novonesis and Phosphea.

LEP Expo & Conference is one of the most prestigious livestock industry exhibitions and seminars in Indonesia, bringing together business people, researchers, and solution providers from various countries. The event took place at The Springs Club, Summarecon Serpong, Tangerang.

BEC also had the opportunity to provide education through a seminar given by Budiman Safari as Ruminant Specialist of PT BEC Feed Solutions Indonesia. In the seminar session, BEC also brought an expert in the field of ruminants, Abdallah Zankar as Global Technical Prominent Specialist Jefo Nutritions.

Important aspects in Ruminants

Livestock performance is largely determined by three basic aspects, namely water, rumen stability and a balanced ration formulation. Water is often overlooked, even though it plays an important role in determining animal productivity and health.

Rumen stability is one of the key determinants of ruminant performance. Good feed transition management is important to prevent sub-acute ruminal acidosis (SARA), as well as the importance of using natural buffers such as calcium powder. Specific probiotics, such as Bacillus licheniformis DSM 5749 and Bacillus subtilis DSM 5750, also play an important role in supporting the digestive and immune systems of livestock. These two non-GMO strains have been shown to reduce the risk of diarrhea, respiratory diseases, and improve leaky gut integrity. In addition, these probiotics are capable of producing various enzymes (amylolytic, proteolytic, lipolytic) that improve digestibility and feed utilization efficiency.

Feed formulation is also important to consider the specific needs of each animal, including the addition of magnesium in the advanced version to address common deficiencies in basal diets in Indonesia.

Role of Vitamin B in ruminants

Cattle nutrition systems have long relied on the assumption that sufficient B-complex vitamins are produced by rumen microbes. However, recent studies and field results show that in times of high stress such as the receiving period, early fattening or summer, endogenous B vitamin production is insufficient.

Jefo’s research has shown that supplementation of B vitamins with special protection can improve metabolic efficiency, reduce fatty liver infiltration, accelerate gluconeogenesis, and ultimately improve growth performance and milk production. One study recorded an increase in daily gain of up to 370 grams per day, and even after supplementation was stopped, the “carry-on” effect was still evident with weight gain of up to 3.5 kg over the following 50 days. Adding 4 grams per day, including 2 grams of coated B vitamins and 2 grams of fat carrier, reduced morbidity by 42% and improved liver health by 55%. This efficiency also has a direct impact on reducing the cost of medication, injections and stress on the animals.
