Overcoming Mycotoxins in Feed & Effective Pullet Management

Layer Solutions Day (LSD) is a collaborative event by three prominent companies: PT BEC Feed Solutions Indonesia, PT BD Agriculture Indonesia, and PT ISA Indonesia. Through this interactive seminar, experts in poultry genetics, nutrition, and farm systems presented materials aimed at improving the efficiency and productivity of layer farms in Indonesia. On February 25, 2025, the LSD event was held at ALTS Hotel, Palembang.

From BEC’s side, the focus was on the importance of mycotoxin management, which significantly impacts poultry performance, particularly due to the use of local Indonesian feed ingredients. Additionally, the discussion covered pullet systems, which are crucial in establishing optimal laying performance.

Tackling Mycotoxins in Feed

Mycotoxins are invisible, tasteless, and odorless toxic compounds, but they pose serious threats to poultry health. Their negative effects include digestive tract damage, immunosuppression, and liver damage. Addressing mycotoxins involves three key steps: deactivation, protection, and recovery.

BEC offers solutions to these challenges, including StarFix®. StarFix® is a mycotoxin binder composed of three active components. It has been modified and optimized to enhance the absorption of both polar and non-polar mycotoxins, thus improving toxin elimination.

StarFix® also acts as an immunomodulator, supporting the bird’s immune system. In addition, it helps protect and regenerate the liver, accelerates recovery, and improves gut health.

Effective Pullet Management

Y Educhalibi Navin, Sales Representative for Palembang and Jambi at PT BEC Feed Solutions Indonesia, presented on pullet management. The success of egg production depends on optimal pullet management. There are three key aspects in managing young birds:

  1. Understanding performance targets – Each chicken strain has its own standards to be met, such as mortality rate, body weight, and feed consumption.

  2. Optimal brooding phase – Elements like temperature, ventilation, and feed distribution must be carefully managed to ensure uniform growth.

  3. Evaluation and data collection – Accurate data on bird growth allows farmers to make early corrections and minimize losses.

With disciplined, data-driven management, farmers can increase production efficiency and reduce the risk of failure.
